Rabbi Brenner J. Glickman
Rabbi Brenner J. Glickman is thrilled to be the rabbi of Temple Emanu-El.
After growing up in Los Angeles and Maine, Rabbi Glickman attended Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts, where he earned an honors degree in History and served as President of Hillel. He completed his Rabbinic Studies at Hebrew Union College in Jerusalem, Israel, and Cincinnati, Ohio, earning a Master of Arts in Hebrew Letters and Rabbinic Ordination. During his years in seminary, he was honored for outstanding contributions to the community and writing excellence.
In 1998, Rabbi Glickman began an eight-year tenure at Congregation Beth Israel, a 2000-member synagogue in Houston, Texas. In addition to officiating at services and life-cycle events, teaching and counseling both adults and youth, and providing outreach to the community, Rabbi Glickman instituted many innovative and outstanding programs at the congregation. Under his leadership, Beth Israel began an award-winning Mitzvah Day and recycling program; study, support and social groups for young professionals, young families, mature singles, gay and lesbian Jews, and parents of troubled children; affiliation with a citywide grassroots social justice organization and citywide cancer support group; and satellite services for Congregation members living in far-flung neighborhoods. Rabbi Glickman’s contributions to the greater Houston community were equally noteworthy. He served as a board member of the Jewish Family Service and Jewish Federation of Greater Houston, and was one of the youngest rabbis ever to be elected President of the inter-denominational Houston Rabbinical Association. He was also the youngest recipient of the Mae and Edmund Hecht Award for outstanding rabbinic service to the Houston community.
Rabbi Glickman continues his community service here in Sarasota. He is the president of the Sarasota Manatee Rabbinical Association and serves on the board of the Jewish Federation.
Rabbi Glickman and his wife, Rabbi Elaine Rose Glickman, met during their rabbinic studies in Jerusalem. They are the proud parents of three kind, beautiful and brilliant children.
